May Is National Meditation Month

I hope you’re all enjoying the spirit of this time of year, a season of fresh starts and new beginnings, as well as reveling in the beauty of the cherry blossoms, budding flowers, and spring showers.

This month we’re celebrating Mother’s Day, Cinco De Mayo, and Memorial Day. But did you know that we’re also celebrating National Meditation Month? That’s right…an entire month dedicated to one of my favorite practices and one of the most ancient spiritual practices in the world. Meditation is a powerful, life-transforming practice and is embraced by most religions.

Meditation and its incredible superpowers, has had the ability to fundamentally change, not only me and my life, but the many people I’ve encountered that have adopted it as a part of their daily lives.

So, why meditate? Well, the better question is, why not meditate?

Research has shown us that there are many benefits to a regular meditation and mindfulness practice. Here are just a few of them:

  • Decreased stress and anxiety

  • Lowered blood pressure

  • Increased creativity, focus, clarity, and attention

  • Improved memory

  • Smoking Cessation

  • Improved Sleep

  • Decreased aggression in teen and adults

  • Increased productivity

  • Weight Loss

  • Improved health and relationships

  • Enhanced Self-Esteem

So, have I convinced you yet? I hope so!

Meditation is a practice of contemplation, reflection, and rumination. We meditate to become more mindful, more aware of ourselves and of the present moment.

Meditation has long been regarded as a panacea for an overall healthier, happier, and more purposeful life. I couldn’t agree more. And, If you have been a part of the Love Sanctuary tribe for sometime now or have been a client or student at one of my classes or workshops and I haven’t convinced you yet to begin meditating, well, then I haven’t been very good at my job. However, by the end of this month I hope to convert many of you.

Here are a couple of things you can do to honor meditation month and either create or enhance a practice:

  • Take a meditation group class.

  • Download a meditation or mindfulness app, such as Headspace or Calm.

  • Take a yoga class (Yes…yoga is a moving meditation)!

  • Tell someone else about the powerful benefits you’ve experienced from meditating.

  • Sign up for a meditation retreat.

  • Add a different meditation technique to your practice.

  • Commit to a regular practice this month, whether once daily, 2x daily, once per week. Any amount of time is better than none. Add whatever you can.

  • For all you experienced meditators, I challenge you to deepen your practice by expanding the length of your meditations or again, experiment with a different technique.

I am pleased to offer to you this month a special promotion for my six, 20-minute personal guided meditation package, which is ideal for someone who cannot find a group class nearby or feels uneasy in a group setting or who simply wants a personal and private experience. I am here to gently guide you and assist you in cultivating a consistent practice.
